Develop And Realise

Before I even began this project we spent 2-3 lessons as a class discussing what Extended Project was and what we had to do for it.
As soon as my teacher explained this, a variety of different creative thoughts came to mind. Some of the things I was thinking about were photo shoots, music videos, promotional videos- using my brother and his friends skateboarding/biking to produce a cool promotional video.

I liked the last idea best as my brother and his friends were into that sort of thing, but more importantly it was local for all of us!!
The more I thought about this project, the more it began to become unrealistic to me. The reasons for this being is that it would be hard to all meet as I obviously being a college student have free periods, whereas my brother and his friends would all have a full day at secondary school. It also got in the way of all of our other commitments such as work, family do's. I also found it hard having to rely on a bunch of thirteen year old boys who were constantly hyper and didn't take things as seriously as I would have liked. I didn't think they would be committed and focused and so that is why I did not want to go along and follow through with this idea.

This right here is the Henley skatepark - 5 minutes from the Henley college!

As I no longer knew what I was no going to do for my Extended project I thought it would be best to come up with something I have never done before.
I liked the idea of a promotional video as I enjoy the advertising aspect of things, but also because it is something I would like to pursue as a career.

My friends of friends parents work for the HYF and I knew this was a popular event that takes place every year in Henley.
A promotion video about the HYF seemed perfect. I looked online (research) and found out information about the event. I found out what events happen during this special occasion and more importantly that there was no official promotional video for the HYF!!

Unfortunately some events of the HYF fell on the due date of the EP - march time. This meant that I would not be able to film everything I would like. If I was to go through with this it would require me to do nothing but pre production for several weeks, and then an intense stressful tight schedule that included filming, editing re shooting and anything else that needed to be done. Not only would I not be able to complete this on time but I would have to try and find a way to work around other school projects which means I would have to postpone a lot of work.

However, I managed to film half of the video, and the other half 'archive footage' which I received via email of the owner.

I found filming extremely intense as I could not afford to have any bad footage that would go to waste. I only had one shot of filming so I had to be aware of what exactly was going on, otherwise I would have to use archive footage throughout the video. I did not want to do this as I wanted to be part of the project.

With only a few weeks left before we presented our final power point presentations to the class, I still hadn't finished editing. Software errors became a huge part in my development process.
A few days before our power point presentation my video would not play.
Several 'software error' messages would appear on screening not allowing me to access the software so I could edit. This was a big problem for me as there was matter of days before the final product was being shown to the class. I took a risk and decided to edit it all at home (using the same software).
I managed to finish it, just about, however I did have to block out all my other commitments and school subjects which I then had to catch up in my own time.

All the equipment used to film this video was provided by the Henley college.
This equipment included;
- Video camera

- USB memory card

- Tripod

This was all useful equipment especially as I would not have been able to get access to it anywhere else.

One thing I should have thought through more was the music chosen for my video.
I didn't realize until after I had made the video that I didn't use copyright free music. The song played in my video was produced by a well known iconic artist - Fat boy slim.
I give full and total credit for the music to him.

Premiere was the first professional software I have used. This software was challenging to use at first but it gradually became a lot easier as I started to pick techniques up by myself.

My final product -

Develop and realise objectives
