Research: Ideas

For part of my Creative Media Extended Project, I have been planning and brainstorming many ideas for several weeks. I decided to start my planning by thinking about things that interest me a lot. Immediately I thought of music and sports. I knew that I wanted my project to be either music or sports related!

My Ideas:

 - Music Video
My first idea was to produce a music video on a song already pre-recorded by my peers band.
I would need to take into consideration:
  • When I was going to film
  • Where I was going to film
  • What time
  • Who with
  • Props
  • Cameras
- Photography
I also thought about producing a small portfolio on someone playing a sport. For this I could have photographed my brother as he plays sports every week and has an interest in biking.
I would need to take into consideration:
  •  Camera needed
  • Time to shoot
  • Weather conditions
  • Where I would shoot
My final Idea

For my final idea I have decided to produce a short ( 2/3 minute) Video on the Henley Youth Festival. Because the HYF doesn't start till after the due date, I have decided I will make a promotion video for it instead. I will get hold of the past years video footage and edit all of them myself to produce a promotion video. This is ideal as:
  •  It's local
  • I have the right software
  • I can work around weather conditions
  • I can film extra footage if needed
  • I have the right camera

Background on HYF;
The first Henley Youth Festival took place in 1994 and now well over 1,500 young people, from under 5’s to 20 year olds, take part each year in about 35 different events and activities.  The Festival itself takes place over a couple of weeks every March and many participants are busy preparing well in advance!

This The Henley Yoth Festival has been running for many years, and each year it gets more and more sucessful.
Many different schools local to Henley often participate in the HYF. Each year it gets more and more competitive and lots of students talents are revealed through the use of performing arts at the Kenton Theatre, the sporting events and many more.. These are some pictures from previous years. This is what you would expect to see in the HYF.

Performing arts takes part in the the local Kenton Theatre. Many children and teenagers compete to win for the main prize. It's a fun and excititng event that parents and guardians always enjoy to watch.  There are two of these competitions, one for the younger children from 4 - 12 yr olds. And the other from 13 - 20 yr olds.

The picture is the Stoner Run that takes place every year. It is aimed at primary school children and many people come along to watch. The Stoner run takes part in 'Stoner Park'. The children are catorgarised into age groups, which then compete against eachother. In total the children run one mile with the pace maker along side them. This event is very competitive.

The picture above is another perfroming arts photograph.

The photograph above shows the musical side of the Henley Youth Festival. Each primary school in Henley recieves a visit from local musicians who briefly teach them and talk to them about what they do. However children who already play instruments are at an advantage, but anyone ca participate, it's a lot of fun to be involved in.

Final Pitch

As part of my creative media course I was set out a task to produce an app that would be useful and suitable for people who use apps today. I worked with three other peers in my class and had to learn to work along side them as well as work as an individual. Before we started thinking about what we would do, we thought about our target audience and considered what would fit in the marketing audience today. We all decided on an app that would be useful and different. Our app is called The Handy Map App.
Our app is a never seen app before, the idea of the app is to be able to take a picture wherever you may be, and the app will tellyou exactly where abouts you are. It can also give a quick brief of the history on where you are. We thought our app we be great to use if your were sightseeing, lost or just for fun.

Our team leader Jack assigned us to groups in order to speed up the process on the making of the app. My task was to deal with the pricing of your app! Firstly we had to take into account all the aspects that we needed to cover, this was to:

- Manage the price of the app
- Design of the app
- Primary & Secondary research
- Pitch
- Logo
- Powerpoint presentation

As being in charge of the pricing of the app I thought it was best to ask the public on their idea's of our app too. We created a basic survey and ask different types of people around the college. Our results shown that our app was unique and different and also that they were more than happy to spend over £6 on our app!
Our survey played a huge part in our marketing price as at first our team thought it was best to keep the price of our app very low and cheap. I came to a conclusion that our app should based at £2.99 because then  it's not too expensive nor cheap. It's worth the price you pay!

We then had to present our idea to the class and produce a well scripted pitch as if we were in a real life situation. The feedback we gained from the class, based on the concept on the app was very poor, whereas our pitch was more successful and scored a lot higher. From this I've realized that I had to focous more on the concept of the app.

After watching the recording video of my team and I, I realized that I could have improved on my speech and to talk a bit louder so the whole class can hear clearly.  If my team and I were to do this task all over again I think we would make our app more appelaing and excititng to others as it didn't come across that enjoyable compared to our competitiors app, however our pitch worked out really well as we organised and prepared ourselves before hand.
